Aigana Gali is a multidisciplinary artist who works across a wide range of media, from canvas and paper to textiles and bronze, in a dynamic process guided by the essential character of each series. Born on the ancient crossing of the Great Silk Road in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to a Georgian mother and Kazakhstani father, Aigana’s formative years were spent in the wild, open cradle of the Eurasian Steppe.

This rich cultural heritage is an infinite source to her work; Gali’s paintings are invested with subtle historical or mythical references, just as the Saka buried treasures in the endless plains of the steppe. In relocating to London, Aigana explored ways to communicate and translate her cultural milieu, in particular the tonal shifts and vibrational quality of light found in the vast plains.

Over the past decade she has developed an important body of work, delineated by series: Creation Myth, Steppe and Tengri. Each representing a metaphorical chapter in her evolution as an artist and thinker, Gali adapts both technique and materials according to an essential, abstracted schematic. Luminous and beguiling, her works explore the mysterious forces - ancient wisdom, nature’s cycles and cosmic order - that shape our lives.

These series are an evolution from the abstract colour fields in Steppe - nothingness - through to the geometric forms of Tengri - being. By incorporating biomorphic and geometric shapes into the arenas that were manifest in Steppe, Aigana is mirroring her own conscious evolution; coming into an awareness of self while retaining a sense of our place – and the space we create

The “Steppe” fine art show by Aigana Gali is a distinctive manifesto of the artist’s heritage, identity, and creative spirit. Long parted from her homeland of Kazakhstan, it is a contemplation of the artist’s cultural roots and her emotional attachment to a place she continues to long for.

Aigana’s Creation Myth series explores the struggle for life and freedom in the dance of life in which we all take part.

It starts with single cells swimming in search of union and completion. Union takes place and the snake is the symbol of the energy that is produced.

Archetype patterns of triple spirals condition the evolving entities, cosmic energies dive into physical manifestation overseen by angelic forces…
